Guilt manifests in all of us in different ways. There are so many different reasons for us feeling guilt and it can consume us until we can no longer think of anything else.

The feeling arises when we feel that we have broken our own standards of conduct or more universal moral standards. It is then distinguished into proportionate guilt (by which we feel rightly guilty about wrong we have done) and disproportionate (by which we feel overly guilty about things we have done.)
